Quarry was inspired by the "unspun" yarns that have become popular but has greater strength and better stitch definition. Three strands of fiber are spun as a group, creating a yarn that looks like a single ply. Because the fiber is carded rather than combed, Quarry is filled with tiny pockets of air that make the sweater light but very warm. It has a rustic, almost handspun look. In fact, you might find a bit of vegetable matter from time to time--proof that Brooklyn Tweed avoids harsh chemicals in its processing. Quarry is so lofty that it is ideal for large, oversize sweaters because you can get the size you want without excessive weight.
Quarry comes in a reeled hank which must be wound before use. Because the yarn is spun for maximum loft, it is more delicate than many commercially produced yarns. Brooklyn Tweed recommends that you wind the skeins by hand as you need them to avoid breakage and preserve the yarn's elasticity.
