Mochi Plus Tam -Beret

This relaxed-fit hat, whether you call it a tam or a beret, is a great topper in any season. Designed by Gail Tanquary, it is knit from Mochi Plus, a variegated wool with great colors from Crystal Palace Yarns. Rather than knitting from the band to the center top, this hat is knit one wedge at a time. Construction begins with a provisional cast on. Then the hat is knit slice by slice, with short row shaping to taper each wedge toward the center. When the last wedge is complete, the provisional cast on is removed and the live stitches are joined. Finally, stitches are picked up for the band and knit downward in ribbing. The pattern includes instructions for two sizes: teen and adult.

Mochi Plus, from Crystal Palace, is an 80% Merino wool/20% nylon blend. Merino wool is the softest wool around, so you won't have to worry that it will be scratchy against your skin. This yarn has also been treated so that it can be machine washed on gentle in a lingerie bag. The color repeat in Mochi Plus is very long, resulting in a gradual color change, not a stripe effect. The color line includes rich, dark colors perfect for pairing with your winter coat and light, bright colors for a fun summer accent.
