Loken Crocheted Cowl in Flicker
This floral crocheted neckpiece is both warm and pretty, thanks to the alpaca and hint of metallic in Flicker. The square motifs are worked separately and then a series of medallion frames are worked into the space between them to join the squares. A cowl edging holds them all together. After blocking, the finished piece measures approximately 26" around the top edge and 39" around the lower edge. It is about 17" high.
Loken uses Berroco's Flicker, a blend of 87% baby alpaca, 8% acrylic, and 5% other fibers. It is a wonderfully soft worsted weight yarn, knitting at 5 stitches per inch. It is not a plied yarn, but rather a chainette, which gives it extra stretch. An extremely fine silver metallic thread runs through it, giving it a subtle shimmer rather than outright glitz. It can be hand washed and dried flat.
