Lilly in ColourscapeLilly was designed by Sarah Hatton to take advantage of the rich color combinations of Rowan's Colourscape Chunky. The garment is a flat circle with ribbed slits for the armholes knit at 3.5 stitches per inch. It is knit back and forth, not in the round, beginning at the center back and working toward the edge. A series of increases throughout bring it to its full circumference. It ends with a ribbed edge. The armholes are made as you knit the body of the sweater and then the armhole ribbing is picked up and knit after the rest of the knitting is complete. Finally, the two edges are brought together and joined to complete the circle. Slip it on, fold down the collar, add a pin to the front to close it, and you are ready to go. Lilly is available in five sizes, to fit bust measurements 32-34 (36-38, 40-42, 44-46, 48-50)". The pattern calls for single point needles to knit the body of the sweater, but because the final rows have 309-337 stitches, using a circular needle would accommodate the stitches more easily.
Lilly uses Rowan's Colourscape Chunky, a bulky weight 100% lambswool yarn. Its distinctive palette was designed by textile artist Kaffe Fassett for Rowan. All of the colorways are variegated and include deep, rich colors, neutrals, and pastels. The color changes are fairly slow, so the effect is a series of concentric circles in this design. It can be hand washed and dried flat.
