The light-duty swift is contructed of aluminum and plastic. It clamps to a table or counter and expands to a 60" circumference. The neck is flexible and can bend to allow a vertical or horizontal orientation of the swift. To use, place a reeled hank of yarn over the swift and expand the swift until it holds the skein under tension. Untie the knot on the hank and pull. As you pull, the swift will turn, feeding out the yarn. You can wind the yarn onto a ball winder or into a ball by hand. When you are finished, push the button on the side of the brace and the swift collapses into a compact column. This skein is a good choice for occasional winding of skeins of up to four ounces. If you wind large skeins or wind many skeins, you would probably be happier with one of the wooden swifts.
