Baby Hats, Mitts, and Booties Set in Encore Worsted
Quick, easy, and very much appreciated by the new mom, these baby accessories are fun to make, too! The hat is knit in the round from the bottom edge to crown. Optional earflaps can be made as well. The mitts are worked on double points as an easy tube (no thumb!) that decreases to the tip. The booties are also knit on double points, starting at the center of the sole. At first knit flat, the sole builds to the instep, and then the cuff is knit in the round. The foot seam is sewn once the bootie is complete. The sets are sized for newborn (3-6 months, 12-18 months).The finished hat circumferences are 12 (14, 16)" and finished bootie lengths are 3.75 (4.25, 4.5)".
This set is designed for worsted weight yarn, so we are kitting it in Encore Worsted, Encore Worsted Colorspun, and Encore Tweed Worsted from Plymouth Yarns. Encore is a blend of 75% acrylic and 25% superwash wool. It is a classic worsted weight, knitting at 5 stitches to the inch. Because it can be machine washed and dried, it is a fantastic choice for kids' sweaters. The Encore Worsted colors include solids and heathers. Encore Worsted Colorspun colorways include variegated, spotted, or ragg-style combinations. Encore Tweed has a solid color background with flecks of contrasting colors.
The kit includes the pattern and the yarn. For this project you will also need:
- 16" circular needles in size US 7 OR SIZE NEEDED TO OBTAIN GAUGE
- double point needles in size 7
- stitch marker
- safety pin
- tapestry needle
